What’s In Your Crawl Space?
On a weekly basis, we will get a call from a homeowner who wants us to come out and inspect their crawl space. When I arrive they usually tell me they have not been in the crawl space for a few years but they don’t think there will be to many problems, regardless they want us to inspect for potential problems. It never fails, when we enter the crawl space we usually find standing water, rotten wood, fungal growth, high humidity levels and poor air quality. The homeowners are always shocked and can’t believe their crawl space is in such disrepair.
Crawl spaces are often vital to the health of the home and homeowner.
40 percent or more of the air we breathe in our home comes from our crawl space. It’s not uncommon to find fungal growth, poor air quality and water issues in a crawl space. If our crawl spaces aren’t properly taken care of we are potentially putting ourselves at risk by breathing contaminated air. Couple that with high humidity and water problems we are now exposing our homes structure to wood decay, foundation settling, sagging floors and creating an environment for insects to feed on the structure of the home (The SCARY Crawl Space).
Being conscious that your crawl space needs to be maintained like the rest of your home goes a long way to prevent potential issues. We recommend having a qualified crawl space contractor inspect your crawl space every few years.
